The Heavyhands Panaerobic hand weight system was invented by Leonard Schwartz, M.D.
Dr. Schwartz has been a physician and psychiatrist for 55 years. In addition to private practice, he was chief of the Division of Psychiatry, in the Department of Medicine at Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh from l963 to l985: was a member of the faculty of the School of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh; an adjunct professor of physical education and health at the same university. For more than a decade he was consultant in Psychiatry to the Jewish Home for the Aged in Pittsburgh. He is or has been a member of the American Medical Association, the Pittsburgh Psychoanalytic Society and the American College of Sports Medicine.
Besides his general interest in the psychological impact of sports and fitness and their relation to health, Dr. Schwartz has been involved in research in the field of whole body strength/endurance in which he is a pioneer. His 'clinical' research over three decades is related to the design of continuous "Panaerobic" choreographies for sports training and the customization of exercise techniques for maximizing whole body strength-endurance. Dr. Schwartz developed the Heavyhands Panaerobic hand weight and has invented other devices and methods for implementing the ways of whole-body exercise.
At 82, he remains a visible example of the method he invented.
